The only reason why "Shaft" is a good movie is because of the main character. John Shaft is one memorable movie character!
What surprised me about "Shaft" was how the bad the movie actually was. The story is extremely simple and done many times before. Still the movie is a memorable one, not just because of the main character but also because of the dialogue and some of the events happening in the movie. I'll bet it was all very shocking back in 1971.
What helps making "Shaft" a cult classic is of course the famous musical score by Isaac Hayes.
Don't be fooled, "Shaft" is not a very good movie but very watchable thanks to the main character and dialogue.
