Style2

(Review originally written at 21 May 2005)

This movie is great from the inside as well from the outside. The story is heartwarming and the visual style makes it a feast to look at. But the biggest power of the movie is the main character played by Audrey Tautou. She knows to enchant you with her big beautiful eyes and her naive antics. It all makes you fall in love with this movie.

They simply don't make movies like this in Hollywood. This movie shows the beauty in little every day things and how certain little events and decisions can changes somebody's life completely in a positive way.

The movie is supported by a wonderful dreamy visual style. I think this movie is what "Big Fish" should had been like. Don't get me wrong I still really like and enjoy "Big Fish" and Tim Burton's visual style but all the little things that "Big Fish" still lacked and needed to be great are present in "Le Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain". A reason why European is often more wonderful to look at, it's purer, has less unneeded sidetracks and the way of storytelling is more enjoyable and less predictable.

"Le Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain" is an unique one of a kind small little masterpiece. OK it sometimes is a bit 'too much' and the movie still has some loose ends and moments that don't always make completely sense but the visual style, story and Audrey Tautou are what make you forgive this tiny little flaws.

Watch this movie and let yourself be carried away by it.
